When Christmas has passed, the weather in Salt Lake gets colder, and the inversion sets in, it is generally an indication to me that it's time for our annual trip to Las Vegas. When I moved away from home, 10 years ago, I would make monthly visits back here. Over the years things have gotten busier, friends have moved on and I've been coming home less and less. These days, it seems like the annual visit is the only visit I can guarantee. January and February are the best months for us to visit Las Vegas for the following reasons:
1- the weather
It's been a very pleasant 65 degrees (or somewhere around there) and sunny all week, making for lots of fun at the parks with the kids. I HAVE to get a break from the gray months in Salt Lake or I just go insane. My fragile self can't take that much depressing weather without a respite.
2- the shopping
Since there isn't much of a winter here, winter clothes don't sell all that fast, therefore it is a fabulous place to shop winter clearances. People that come to shop here also look to spend a lot more money than I do, so the reasonably priced stores generally have loads of great sales.
We didn't bring our camera, so my mom has been so kind as lend us hers... again. One of the malls we went to has an awesome play area for the kids, making it possible to shop the sales AND play in the sun at the same time. Talk about efficiency.
About half a second after I took this, Jane shoved Lizzy off the toy thing (whatever it's called). Ah, sisterly love.
Lizzy's vocabulary has continued to grow by leaps and bounds. She says the funniest things, I'm going to have to start posting them.
Who has more hair these days... Charlie or Brent?
Lizzy was so ticked that I kept trying to get her photo in the little car. Click on the photo to see her disdain in all it's glory.
My tired babies. Whenever we leave town, my children become even more sleep deprived than usual. They all refuse to sleep in the car and have a hard time adjusting when they aren't in their beds at home. We've had plenty of melt downs, but what can you do? My mom was way cool and rented a room for Brent and me at the casino near their home so that we could get some sleep while the girls stayed with her. How cool is that? It's going to be hard to come home and get back to real life.

That park at Town Square is fun! I agree with you about having to escape Utah in the dreary months of January and February and Vegas is having perfect weather right now. I also love it that your mom rented you guys a room and it has inspired me. Next time I have a visitor I think I will rent a room for Tim and I and my visitor can stay at my house with my kids!
We are enjoying 60 degree weather in Fort Collins. It's crazy actually. But I'm glad you were able to get away and spend some time in Vegas. And I agree...there is nothing as good as Vegas shopping.
Ahhhh... looks so nice to not have to wear a heavy coat. Glad you are having a good time.
Lizzy has such an angelic face!!! I love your pictures. Glad you're having a great time and that the weather is cooperating so nicely!!
I love Lizzy's expression, it reminds me of a picture of Sandy taken at about the same age. Not that they look at all alike, but the expression is the same. Very cute!
Ok, so this makes sense. On Sunday, you said that you were going to visit your mom- well, I thought you meant in Daybreak. I have been calling, watching your house, and wondering where in the world you went. Now I get it. I forgot that you need your yearly escape to Vegas! I wish we were there with you. Don't come back yet. The weather is so disgusting here! It is just gross outside! Enjoy it while you've got it! See you soon.
That last post is from me. I have no idea who Jill is, or how I was logged in as her. Wierd!!
Looks like we're missing out on the annual Vegas event. By the time I'll be able to make the trip, it'll be too hot to be enticing. Oh well.
And you definitely picked the right week to leave. The air is disgusting here.
Our San Antonio weather is pretty decent also. You (meaning all relatives who read this blog) should try it sometime. I have daffocils making their presence known. Just leaves so far but blossoms will be forthcoming.
Sounds like you are having a great time. I seem to recall Lizzy's expressrion on other faces a couple of decades ago.
Don't give up, Leslie. There is plenty of good weather to come in Vegas, and we will look forward to seeing you. We aren't as well equipped as we once were for visitors, and as life's ironies play out, we have had more since we moved into our little rental than we ever did when we had larger quarters! Keep on coming, folks!!
